entrepot
transformation warehouse into youth meeting place
The Entrepot, a new party and concert hall, offers the youth of Bruges and the surrounding area their very own meeting place, after having asked for one for many years. The youth centre was housed in the former warehouses of the city of Bruges.
The building contains 3 floors, one of which is a semi-basement. The original design used the ground floor as party hall, but the height was limited and a number of bearing columns hindered visually. Through a sophisticated technique, VK was able to increase the venue capacity and enhance the spatial effect. By suspending the columns on the first floor from a metal frame on the roof, it became possible to remove 4 bearing concrete columns on the ground floor. Thus more space was created. Furthermore, a large opening could be made in the floor of the ground floor, enabling the basement and ground floor to function together, offering room to 1,000 youngsters in the party hall.
The Entrepot also has a central control room, a bar, separate boxes and a VIP room that can also be hired as a smaller party venue.
