kouterhof
bank building conversion to apartments and offices
A former bank building of the former Generale Bank located at the Kouterplein in Ghent, is being redesignated as a sizable, urban mixed-use development. The project has 55 residences and 7,000 m² of office space, in which the flats range from 1- to 4 room apartments. There are also some spacious penthouses. The living area overlooks both the square and the water of the Ketelvest, located at the rear. The office functions have a view of the square and an inner area.
On the Kouterplein side, the facades of the bank building were preserved. The project therefore shows a balanced combination of thorough restoration, sustainable renovation, and modern new construction. Moreover, almost 5,000 m² of open space and a green zone was installed. Also, 8 above-ground and 116 underground parking spaces were built, accessible from the Kouter. The proposed diversity of living, work, recreation and open space on this site links it to the dynamics of Ghent's inner city.
