south boulevard
engineering for a new urban development
In the coming years, the center of the town of Waregem will undergo a drastic redevelopment. The old senior home, vacant since a new home was built nearby, will be replaced by an urban development, offering room for a public library, apartments, retail and an underground car park. This urban intervention will be connected to the retail area "Het Pand" through a promenade boulevard.
The site is mostly property of the Public Social Welfare Center of Waregem, and will be rebuilt within a public-private collaboration.
The new library will be 3 times larger than the current one, integrating a maximum of green techniques. For example, basic lighting will be provided through the 4 glazed facades and the northern orientated roof lighting. Climatisation will occur through geothermics and concrete core activation.
The library will also dispose of a read café and multifunctional space, to be used separately - also after closing time of the library.
