replacement structure nursing home + new development service centre
The current nursing home was built in the 70s and is in urgent need of renewal. VK plans to build a new care campus, with a nursing home, serviced flats, a social service centre, central kitchen and an underground car park.
The nursing home will be a replacement structure for the existing home, dividing the site into 3 recognisable areas : Two houses for normalised living will be provided on the ground floor, for seniors who suffer from (minor to moderate) dementia. Both houses have their own entrance. The living spaces look out onto the street and courtyard. Their large size allows for some flexibility. They can therefore easily be adapted to be used as a dining, sitting, TV or reading room. Skylights in the corridors of the nighttime area to provide sufficient daylight.
The other residents are housed on floors +1 and +2. The first floor will house a centre for short stays, which will be developed as home away from home. A new service centre will accommodate people in the home care system and their environment, and (young) seniors in general.
