psychiatric centre zoete nood gods
master plan and new development pavilion
The Zoete Nood Gods campus has a pleasant garden, but it is not fully exploited. A number of building blocks hamper the linearity and continuity of the site, so that only a number of buildings may enjoy the garden. A master plan, developed by VK, rearranges the buildings around the garden park. This new siting is based on the concept of “living in the green”. All buildings are in contact with the park and operate as pavilions. The design of the new buildings is characterised by small scale and simple volumes, possibly connected via transparent connections. This ensures that the park remains visible between the buildings. Furthermore, the transparent connections result in a uniformity within the concept.
The Providentia Pavilion will count 2 sections of 30 beds each, for short treatments for adults with serious psychiatric problems and alcohol addicts and drug addicts. There is also an emergency admissions unit. The building is volumetrically divided into small living groups. The living areas serve as transparent links between the more massive room volumes.
The therapy building will include therapy rooms and staff rooms, and a day hospital with 5 living areas. Here too the various entities are connected by transparent volumes, so that the green surroundings remain present as a constant factor. The solid row of buildings facing the street is antiquated and will be replaced by smaller volumes. In this way, the campus and the park itself will open themselves to the community.
