psychiatric nursing home de liereman
conversion holiday home to psychiatric nursing home
De Liereman, a former holiday home, was expanded and converted into a psychiatric nursing home for 60 residents, and this within the master plan of the Sint-Amedeus (Morsel) psychiatric centre. The home primarily assists the residents in the a rehabilitation oriented process, independently of the psychiatric centre.
The wooded and quiet location inspired VK to create an “open house” concept. The relationship with the outside environment is underlined by two south facing patios and living spaces. Furthermore, community life is focused on. A variety of different community spaces create 2 living communities out of every 30 residents: because people develop easier in smaller groups. The diversity of the various structural elements reinforces the feeling of a small scale and homelike atmosphere. Each structural element has its own identity, allowing residents to more easily orient themselves within the interior as a whole.
