The client, Huize Mariatroon, wishes to establish itself as an open nursing home and care centre where privacy, independence and a good living atmosphere are the focal points. Seniors living here will continue to be integrated into society. This is why the client wishes to implement communal residence where older people reside in a natural and recognisable environment while enjoying supportive care. VK embodies these principles in its design for a new nursing home and care centre and a building housing serviced flats.

The serviced flats, integrated as they on the edge of the street, will be a true part of the neighbourhood goings-on, while boasting the intensity of nursing care facility in the immediate vicinity. Three structural levels contain 10 serviced flats, one and two-room flats, and a community living area with a kitchen. Architecturally the building was realised on a small scale. A variety of siding materials will convert the broad sides of the structure to smaller units, allowing the structure to integrate smoothly into the urban fabric.
