VK has been active since the 70’s as research agency for the successful Euro-Silo. Testament to this is, among other things, 29 cylindrical, vertical silos, with a total storage capacity of 113.000 tons, a level silo of 40.000 tons and 75.000 tons. Additionally, VK carried out the design and engineering.

Euro-Silo is a distribution centre for grain and derivative products located in the harbour in Ghent, and it is situated nearby many grain processing and fodder companies. The company is considered a pioneer in grain transhipment and storage in Ghent. The takeover of GGT (Ghent Grain Terminal) in 1992 united two of the biggest loading and unloading installations for grain, oil seeds and derivatives in the Ghent harbour. Today Euro-Silo has a total storage capacity of 650.000 metric tons, and different seagoing ships can be dealt with at the same time, at a quay measuring 1,2 kilometres in length.

In February 1998, Euro-Silo was struck by a blaze. The conveyor belts on the sloping main footbridge, for the filling of the vertical silos, were destroyed. There was also serious structural damage to the main metal footbridge. VK worked on the assessment of damages to the steel structure of the footbridge and charging stations, so that Euro-Silo was, within a very short time, operational once more.
