The first MDF factory in Belgium ‘Industrielle de Burtonville’ in Vielsalm was increased in size by 22 hectares, after an initiative by Spano nv, in Oostrozebeke. The annual MDF target capacity amounts to 200.000m³. The construction programme contained mainly: a production hall of approximately 25.000m² with the defibrillator and glue/adhesion building, a debarking building with a washing installation for the primary treatment of the woodchips, a thermal centre for electricity & warmth production, as well as a cogeneration building.

Besides the total design (architecture, stability, special techniques), VK also took care of the detailed engineering of all machinery bases and the foundations of the industrial constructions, as well as the infrastructural work.

Through permanent follow-up procedures at the yard, during the construction process, with a smooth coordination as result, it was possible to respond very quickly to last-minute alterations from the principal. This resulted in a very short construction period: 15 months from the start of foundation laying to test-driving of the factory.
