On December 12th, construction has started on the new care campus in Sijsele (Belgium). On this site, VK designed for the Public Social Welfare Center of Damme a new senior home facility and a new public welfare center.

The project meets the new vision on senior care, where next to the caring aspect, the interaction with the environment becomes more important. A number of functions (library, hairdressing salon, shop, ...) will be gathered on a communal 'village square'. Also, large glazed surfaces enhance the relationship between interior and exterior.

In addition, this senior care facility more than meets the current sustainability norms. Next to the demands of the Flemish Fund for Infrastructure (VIPA), the care facility will be equipped with a borehole thermal energy storage-system, photovoltaic panels and a solar boiler.
