Early December, the second and final phase of the senior care facility 't Gulle Heem (Wevelgem, Belgium) has been put into service. As such, the project, designed by VK, is almost completed after nearly 10 years. In 2004, the construction of 20 serviceflats started. After that, the phased replacement construction of the senior care facility got underway. Phased, as the limited surface of the plot demanded a well thought-out positioning and planning of the new wings, with regard to the existing building. So part of the new building was constructed at a good yard of the existing facility. At the moment, the existing building has to be demolished, and the surrounding infrastructure and landscaping finalised. With the new senior care facility, 't Gulle Heem provides the complete scale of care: serviced flats, normalised living, residential care, short stay and a services center. Entire completion is scheduled for April 2012.
