laying of foundation stone of arteveldestadium ghent - 18/09/2008
On the former site of the Groothandelsmarkt in Ghent, the laying of the foundation stone of the new Arteveldestadium took place. This stadium, after a design by Bontinck Studiegroep, will offer seats to 20.000 visitors and will open its doors in July 2010. VK ENGINEERING is responsible for the studies building services and structural engineering. According to Jeroen Piqueur, CEO of the cvba Artevelde-stadion, the Arteveldestadium will be the first in Belgium to meet all new European and Belgian standards. Around the stadium, a multi-functional site will be developed, with a number of leisure-activities, such as retail, restaurants, a hotel, as well as offices. To be more precise : on a total net surface of 65.000 mē, the surface for the soccer games is 11.000 mē. The Arteveldestadium will arise on the former terrains of the Groothandelsmarkt, nearby the E17 and the R4.
Furthermore, a number of measures will be implemented to reduce the energy consumption :
