the capital : vk engineering takes care of the technical concept

At the heart of the European district, the project 'The Capital' is being finalised. The immense offices project of 60.000 sqm, within a stone's throw of the Berlaymont building, is unique because of its location and the modular construction concept, consisting of 6 independent building elements. The 6 elements ware named after six cities in the first European member states of the then EEC (Brussels, The Hague, Luxembourg, Berlin, Paris and Rome). The building blocks, each between around 9.500 sqm and 8.300 sqm, can all be occupied and used completely independently. The various building services, such as air conditioning and heating, are installed per block. For self-explanatory reasons, the fire detection does function for the building in its entirety.

VK ENGINEERING took care of the technical concept of this project, that borders on 3 streets, and whose facades amount up to 700 metres. Through a flexible approach of the project, the interior can be used as open plan offices, or be divided into individual office spaces, always provided with ample daylight.

Furthermore, high insulation double glazing was applied, and 1 out of 2 windows can be opened for ventilation. The airconditioning is produced by dynamic cold beams. The low luminance lighting is built in, and is managed via presence detectors.

With this reference, VK ENGINEERING confirms its strong presence on the Brussels offices market and in the European district.
