Construction bpost in full swing

In Brussels, the new post sorting center of bpost rises from the ground at a fast pace. VK Architects & Engineers designed the project for client Katoen Natie and provides all services: architecture, M&E engineering, structural engineering, energy reporting, acoustical engineering and fire safety engineering.

The present post sorting center Brussels X became too small. The new sorting center will accommodate 1,500 employees – in Brussels X at present, 700 people are employed. The new centre will treat both letters and packages, regionally as well as nationally. This synergy will evoke a more efficient mail processing and distribution.

Bpost was started by VK Architects & Engineers internally as a pilot project for the application of BIM, Building Information Modeling. VK Architects & Engineers uses BIM for the design and the follow-up of construction. This process offers a better management of the information streams and a more uniform coordination throughout the entire project course, both for external parties and between VK’s own departments.

Construction on site started at the end of 2015. The sorting center is to be operational by the summer of 2017.
