Helora - a sustainable, innovative and forward-looking design for a hospital network in Hainaut
VK architects+engineers, part of Sweco, have gradually become regular guests at the Journées d’Architecture de la Santé. This exciting conference on healthcare infrastructure offers a rich array of relevant themes brought to the table by hospital boards, healthcare professionals, designers, manufacturers, and more. VK was present once again this year. Healthcare Director Stéphane Vermeulen shared his insights on the future of hospitals as catalysts of well-being using two specific cases (the Helora network in Hainaut and emotional well-being among our youngest patients in Kortrijk), and also presented his views on the evolution of hospital typologies during a round-table discussion.

The Quartz office building in Brussels has replaced a dated office building.Poponcini & Lootens and VK architects+engineers, part of Sweco, designed a passive office building that complies with the NZEB criteria and was awarded a BREEAM Excellent certificate.

To underscore the sustainable ambitions of the brand new city project, KdG and Meir Corner decided to plant two trees as their symbolic foundation stone. KdG and Meir Corner board members and Mayor Bart De Wever had the honour of planting the first trees. These trees will gain prominence when the building is inaugurated.

Engineering work on transformation of N8 highway in full swing
Engineering firm Sweco is busy preparing for the thorough redevelopment of the N8 highway as it passes through the municipalities of Alveringem, Lo-Reninge and Vleteren. From the border with Veurne/Alveringem to the centre of Oostvleteren, an 11-kilometre stretch of the National Route is to be transformed with safety and practicality in mind. According to Klaas Wittebolle: "Our assignment includes the full engineering work for the transformation of this road — from the preliminary design to the completion of the works — for the road itself, as well as the drainage systems and civil engineering works. Our clients are the West-Flemish division of the Agency for Roads and Traffic, and the municipalities of Vleteren and Alveringem."
