Private Equity Fund Down 2 Earth Capital takes share in VK

Down 2 Earth takes a firm share in the holding VK Group. VK Group is the holding behind one of Belgium’s largest architecture and engineering firms, better known as “VK Architects & Engineers”. Paul Corbeel, current CEO, and the VK Group holding management – Karel Verhaeghe, Alain Bossaer and Dirk Slabbinck – also take a share, as such ensuring continuity.

VK Architects & Engineers was established in 1952 in Roeselare (Belgium) by Hubert Van Kerckhove and worked on the industrial infrastructure after World War II. In 1985, his son Peter Van Kerckhove took over the daily management and diversified the activities and target markets. Since 2011, VK Architects & Engineers is led by CEO Paul Corbeel. Today, 65 years later, the group has developed into a prominent, multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm on an international scale, with four offices in Belgium and two in Vietnam. The group has a consolidated revenue of 31 million euros and employs 300 people.

The services package of VK Architects & Engineers ranges from master planning, feasibility studies, architecture, structural engineering, M&E engineering to interior architecture and landscape design, as well as infrastructure.
Furthermore, VK Architects & Engineers also offers advanced engineering services, such as Façade Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering and Sustainable Design.

About half of the project portfolio originates in the Healthcare market, where VK Architects & Engineers offers the entirety of services to hospital clients, mental care and senior living. The main ongoing projects include : Sint-Maarten General Hospital in Mechelen (Belgium), Delta General Hospital in Roeselare (Belgium), Sint-Jan Brugge-Oostende General Hospital (Belgium), ZNA hospital in Antwerp, Erasmus Hospital in Brussels and Grand Hospital in Charleroi (Belgium). In Vietnam, VK Architects & Engineers is currently working on two public hospitals of 1,000 beds each for the Vietnamese Ministry of Health: Bach Mai II and Viet Duc II.

For the other half of the revenue, VK Architects & Engineers acts as engineering partner for prominent architecture firms, real estate developers and public governments. It performs the engineering studies for office buildings, residential developments, schools, hospitality & leisure projects and public assignments. Some of the more striking projects include : in Brussels the new NATO headquarters, New Brussels X and the new media house for VRT, in Ghent De Krook and Ghelamco Arena, in Antwerp Post X and Nieuw Zuid, and recently in Ho Chi Minh City the new flagship store of H&M.

Down 2 Earth acquires a controlling interest in VK, to support the ongoing international development of the group. The daily direction of the group remains with the current management, under the guidance of Paul Corbeel.
