Gateway, the new headquarters of Deloitte at the very heart of the airport, accommodates 2,000 employees. The former administrative building of Brussels Airport was largely stripped and completely renovated.
As a result of the constant developments of the national airport, one of Belgium’s most important growth poles, the site of the former terminal fell into disuse. The offices project ‘Gateway’ revalues the site, while taking care to respect the original architectural concept.
An additional wing to the U-shaped complex encloses a central atrium, 10 floors high. It gathers all vertical and horizontal circulation and offers space for an indoor garden, the reception desk and a multifunctional space. This eye-catcher demanded some additional measures regarding fire safety. A sophisticated smoke and heat exhaust system provides a safe evacuation route, while a sprinkler installation enhances the building’s fire safety. An automatic extinguishing system on the façade prevents fire spreading to nearby buildings.
For heating and cooling, the distribution network of the airport is used. In the airport area, gas installations aren’t allowed for reasons of security.
